The Ellington Project

I’m very excited to release the latest installment in my Remix Collection series.  This time around I focused on the music of legendary composer and performer, Duke Ellington.  In my mind, there is no greater jazz composer or band leader, and his music has, for some reason, gone largely unsampled throughout the history of hiphop.

For the record i flipped samples from various points in his career, from his big-band days, all the way down to his work with Roach and Mingus.  I also had some help from keyboardists, Josh Rawlings and Jose Gonzales, who recorded parts in their home studios and then emailed over to me to re-sample.

I’ll leave the rest to wikipedia.  For now, take a journey through Ellington’s career, as seen through the lens of my MPC.

Hope you enjoy.
